The Plebeia Project

This project supports and studies the stingless bee species Plebeia sp. in Palo Alto. Introduced from Brazil in the 1950s, these bees were thought to have disappeared until recent discoveries. Due to limited nesting sites in tree cavities, we’re collaborating with the community to distribute swarm lures and build bee houses.

Community help is crucial in locating more nests to enhance our understanding and conservation efforts. This initiative aids pollination and serves as an educational tool for all ages. By employing citizen science and Meliponiculture principles, we hope to boost urban biodiversity and knowledge of these unique bees.
