Protecting the plebeia of Palo Alto

Continuing a legacy of research

In the 1950's the USDA introduced several species of stingless bees from Brazil into the US. The bees were thought to have vanished until colonies were found in tree cavities in Palo Alto.

The Plebeia Project is a citizen science initiative working to identify, protect, and research these remarkable bees.
